Counter Demo Sep 1
Hill Street Car Park (Opposite Shrub Hill Retail Park)
From Hill Street Car Park to Silver Street
The march will begin at Hill St Car Park, near to the Mosque, allowing all communities of Worcester to come together in a show of solidarity with those targeted by the pedlars of hate. Salma Yaqoob will speak at the assembly at 1.30pm. The march will leave at 2pm promptly.
The route will be via George St, then City Walls Rd to a rally at Silver St. The route will pass by the Cornmarket at the same time the EDL will be having their rally.
PLEASE NOTE: THE POLICE HAVE SAID THAT INDIVIDUALS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO JOIN THE MARCH ONCE IT HAS STARTED.
The rally will be addressed by a mix of prominent trade unionists including Haroon Rashood (Regional Organiser Bakers Union) and Andy Scattergood (West Midlands Regional Secretary Fire Brigades Union) and speakers from local supporting organisations (including our Campaign Co-ordinator Andy Graham). The end of the rally will be at 3.45pm.
Assembly, march and rally will all be multicultural events proudly demonstrating our unity and determination to stand together in the face of a far-right that seeks to instil fear and division.
Protestors with a disability
Individuals who wish to join the rally in Silver Street directly because they are unable to take part in the march by reason of infirmness or disability will be allowed to do. Please send name(s) ASAP so that we can forward to the police.
The march begins at Hill Street Car Park opposite Staples etc. The car park will be closed from 6pm Friday.
Nearest parking is St Martins Gate, a multi-storey that is about 200m away.
If travelling by train please use Shrub Hill rather than Foregate St stations. We understand that police will try to divert EDL through Foregate Street. As a general precaution when travelling to and from the march and rally it is wise to not be easily identifiable as a counter protestor, especially if you are alone.
