Worcester residents are being encouraged to take part in an important public consultation that could shape how the city is represented for decades to come.

The Future Worcester consultation asks residents for their views on whether Worcester should have:

  • a single town council for the whole city,
  • a town council for currently unparished areas,
  • or several smaller parish councils based around neighbourhood communities.

The consultation comes ahead of major changes to local government in Worcestershire. Under Local Government Reorganisation plans, Worcester City Council and Worcestershire County Council will be replaced by a new authority in 2028.

As part of that process, Worcester residents are now being asked what local community representation should look like in the future.

Parish and town councils can play an important role in local life, supporting services and community facilities such as allotments, parks, public toilets, community halls and local grants. They can also provide an additional local voice for neighbourhoods and communities.

Currently, only parts of Worcester are parish areas, including St Peter the Great County and Warndon Villages. The consultation is seeking views on what arrangements should exist across the wider city in future.

The Community Governance Review will consider a range of options and residents are being encouraged to take part before the deadline.

The consultation closes at 5pm on Monday 15 June 2026.

Residents can find out more and take part in the consultation via Worcester City Council’s website.
