Meet the team: Sue Smith
“Putting residents at the heart of everything I do.” - Cllr Sue Smith
Working for Lower Wick and Pitmaston
Sue Smith is a dedicated Labour councillor representing Lower Wick and Pitmaston, with deep roots in the community. Having lived locally for over 30 years, she brings experience, commitment, and a strong understanding of the issues that matter most to residents.
Working for Local People
Sue is a hands-on councillor who focuses on practical results. She regularly supports residents with everyday concerns, including:
- Tackling overflowing bins and street cleanliness
- Pushing for planning enforcement where developments impact residents
- Supporting local shops and strengthening the St John’s shopping area
- Working closely with fellow councillors to get things done
She believes good local government is about listening, responding, and delivering.
Supporting Young People and Community Safety
Sue has used her councillor funding to make a real difference locally — including providing lifesaving equipment for Lower Wick Swimming Pool, helping around 80 young people learn vital water safety skills.
She is passionate about ensuring young people have positive activities and opportunities, working with local groups to support community initiatives.
Championing Local Services
Sue has been an active supporter of St John’s Library, backing campaigns to keep it open and promote its role as a vital community hub.
She also regularly shares and supports local events, helping bring people together and strengthen community spirit.
Protecting Green Spaces and the Environment
Sue is committed to protecting and improving local green spaces, including:
- Pitmaston Park
- Cripplegate Park
- The riverside
- The Green at Lower Wick
She attends stakeholder meetings and works with partners to ensure these spaces are preserved and enhanced for future generations.
Standing Up for Residents
Sue believes strongly that councillors should serve their communities, not themselves:
“I care more about residents than personal ambition. Everything I do is about making our area a better place to live.”
She continues to campaign for:
- Cleaner streets and better-maintained public spaces
- Improved walking and cycling provision
- Stronger oversight of developers
- A vibrant, thriving local community
