Labour councillors come from all walks of life. They are parents, workers, carers, business owners, students and retirees. What they have in common is a commitment to making Worcester a better place to live.
What does a councillor do?
Councillors are elected by local people to:
- Represent residents
- Help solve local problems
- Campaign for improvements
- Influence council decisions
- Speak up for their communities
You don’t need to be a politician. You do need to care about people and be willing to listen.

We want our candidates to reflect Worcester
Worcester Labour welcomes people from all backgrounds and experiences. We are particularly keen to encourage applications from women, disabled people, younger people, people from ethnic minority communities and anyone who feels local government does not currently reflect the community it serves.
Support and Training
One of the biggest barriers is people think they are unqualified.
You will not be expected to do it alone. Worcester Labour will be on hand to offer support, training, and mentoring every step of the way.

Applications to become a Labour council candidate are made through the Labour Party’s official application form.
Applications close on 28 August.
A useful tip before you start: We recommend preparing your longer answers in Word or another document first, then copying and pasting them into the online form. This means you have your own saved copy and don’t risk losing your work.
