Meet the team: Basharat Ali
“I will continue working hard for Nunnery residents and making sure local concerns are heard.” - Basharat Ali
Standing up for Nunnery
Basharat Ali has represented Nunnery Ward since 2022 and is committed to standing up for local residents, tackling anti-social behaviour, and improving community safety.
Safer Streets and Community Safety
Basharat has spoken out for action after serious incidents in the area, including calling for more CCTV following reports of a man with a gun in Tolladine. He continues to work with partners to ensure residents feel safe in their neighbourhoods.
Protecting Our Environment
He has challenged fly-tipping at Perry Wood Local Nature Reserve, making clear that dumping rubbish in valued green spaces is unacceptable and must be dealt with firmly.
Working Locally for Residents
Basharat works closely with his fellow Nunnery councillors on regular ward walkabouts, litter picks and responding to issues raised by residents.
He supports activities at Ronkswood Community Centre and Newtown Green, and continues to push for improvements at Medway Community Centre and local play areas.
Council Roles
- Vice-Chair, Standards Committee
- Member, Mayor’s Fund
Focus for the Future
Basharat’s focus is practical: safer streets, cleaner neighbourhoods, better local facilities, and support for families facing the cost-of-living crisis.
