Meet the Team: Jenny Barnes

I’m proud to represent St John’s — a strong and welcoming community where I’ve lived with my family for over 30 years.

I’ve always played an active role locally, from serving as a school governor at Christopher Whitehead to volunteering in the Library Garden. I’m also a trustee of two debt relief charities, supporting people facing real financial hardship.

 Working for St John’s

As a councillor, I focus on getting practical results for residents.

I regularly challenge poor standards from rogue landlords and scrutinise planning applications that affect our neighbourhood. I work closely with council officers, local organisations and the police to improve community safety and resolve issues when they arise.

When things go wrong, I step in. Whether that’s holding housing providers to account or supporting residents through difficult situations, I make sure people are heard and action is taken.

Standing up for residents

I’ve spoken out on issues ranging from poor housing conditions to developments that don’t respect the character of our area.

I believe new housing must be the right development in the right place — protecting both residents and the local environment.

Standing up for working people

I believe in fairness, strong public services and respect for working people.

That’s why I support measures to improve workers’ rights, strengthen public services and ensure that everyone in our community is treated with dignity and respect.

Recent action

Recently, I’ve worked with residents to challenge housing standards, supported action on local planning issues, and helped ensure concerns about local services are heard and addressed.
