Three popular Worcester play areas are set to be transformed this summer as Worcester City Council invests £331,000 in new and improved facilities for local children and families.
The investment will fund major improvements at Ronkswood Hub, Horizon Hub and Medway Road play areas, creating more inclusive, accessible and imaginative spaces for children of all ages to enjoy.
The schemes have been shaped by consultation with local residents, who were invited earlier this year to share their ideas and priorities for the future of the sites.
Work has already begun at Ronkswood Hub and will shortly start at Horizon Hub, with improvements at Medway Road due to begin in July. The Ronkswood and Horizon projects are expected to be completed in time for the summer holidays, while work at Medway Road is scheduled for completion in early August.
Across all three sites, the improvements will include a stronger focus on accessibility and inclusion, with new equipment designed to enable more children to play together regardless of age, ability or additional needs. Picture communication boards will also be installed to support non-verbal children and adults.
Councillor Adrian Gregson, Chair of Worcester City Council’s Place and Economic Development Committee, said:

“The designs have been shaped by local people, and the improvements will create more inclusive, imaginative and accessible spaces where children and families can play, socialise and enjoy the outdoors together.
“These schemes reflect our commitment to delivering high-quality play facilities across Worcester.”
The improvements are being funded through planning-related developer contributions and form part of Worcester City Council’s wider commitment to providing safe, welcoming and accessible outdoor spaces for communities across the city.
